Trump's Gaza Development Plan: A Masterplan Unveiled at Davos (2026)

Imagine a war-torn Gaza transformed into a glittering coastal paradise, complete with towering skyscrapers, bustling industrial parks, and even a new airport. Sounds like a dream, right? But here’s where it gets controversial: this vision, unveiled by Jared Kushner at the World Economic Forum in Davos, was presented without consulting the very people it’s supposed to benefit—the Palestinians. And this is the part most people miss: the plan, dubbed a ‘masterplan’ for post-war Gaza, ignores critical issues like property rights, land ownership, and justice for war crimes, focusing instead on rebuilding over the rubble of devastation where thousands remain buried.

Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a real estate developer, boldly declared, ‘There is no Plan B,’ as he showcased this ambitious proposal. But let’s not forget the context: Israel’s devastating war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, has claimed over 71,000 Palestinian lives, with thousands more missing under the rubble. Even after a ceasefire was announced by Trump on October 10, 2023, more than 470 Palestinians have been killed. Amid this tragedy, the Trump administration’s plan promises a ‘New Gaza’ and ‘New Rafah,’ complete with 100,000 housing units and modern infrastructure—all while sidestepping the human cost and political complexities.

Trump, speaking at Davos, optimistically claimed the war in Gaza ‘was really coming to an end,’ yet Israeli strikes continued, killing at least 11 Palestinians, including children and journalists, just days before. ‘I’m a real estate person at heart,’ Trump remarked, ‘and it’s all about location. Look at this beautiful piece of property—what it could be for so many people.’ But critics argue this vision reeks of imperialism, reducing a catastrophic genocide to an ‘investment opportunity’ without Palestinian input.

Palestinian-American writer Susan Abulhawa bluntly called it ‘a plan to erase Gaza’s indigenous character,’ turning its people into cheap labor for industrial zones and creating an exclusive coastline for tourism. Over two years of relentless bombardment, Israel, backed by the U.S., has destroyed or damaged over 80% of Gaza’s buildings, flattened residential blocks, and obliterated hospitals, universities, and essential infrastructure. Nearly all of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced, facing dire shortages of food, water, and aid, which Israel tightly controls.

So, what’s really in this Gaza reconstruction plan, part of Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’? Could it be realized, and at what cost to the people of Gaza? And this is where it gets even more contentious: the 11-page charter for the Board of Peace doesn’t even mention Gaza, instead morphing into an international disputes forum that could rival the United Nations. Its executive board includes figures like Tony Blair, Marco Rubio, and Benjamin Netanyahu—despite Netanyahu facing an arrest warrant for war crimes from the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Trump’s plan promises to boost Gaza’s GDP to $10 billion by 2035, create 500,000 jobs, and attract $25 billion in investment. But Kushner, when asked about funding, vaguely referred to peace as ‘a different deal than a business deal,’ calling the efforts ‘very entrepreneurial.’ Security, he emphasized, is the top priority, yet there’s no evidence Palestinians were consulted on any of this. Amjad Shawa, director of the Palestinian NGOs Network in Gaza, expressed shock: ‘No one consulted us about the plans for Gaza and its future.’

The plan outlines four phases of development, starting in Rafah and moving north, with coastal tourism zones, mixed-use towers, and industrial areas. It even includes AI-generated images of ‘New Rafah’ and ‘New Gaza,’ promising 100,000 housing units, 200 schools, and 75 medical facilities. But Kushner’s condition for reconstruction? Full disarmament by Hamas and withdrawal of Israeli forces—a demand Hamas has not agreed to, fearing it would leave Palestinians defenseless against future attacks.

Here’s the burning question: Is this plan a genuine effort to rebuild Gaza, or a thinly veiled attempt to reshape it under imperialist control? And what does this mean for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination? Let’s discuss—what do you think? Is this plan a step toward peace, or a recipe for further conflict?
