The Swedish interior design firm Studio Ramson has transformed a classic Stockholm apartment into a vibrant, international-inspired space, defying the city's renowned minimalist aesthetic. The project, located in the historic Östermalm district, was commissioned by a globetrotting father and his family, who sought a home that reflected their diverse cultural experiences.
The brief was clear: no white, and instead, a warm, earthy palette inspired by the surrounding architecture. Studio Ramson's response was a bold move, creating a layered and intimate interior that stands in contrast to the typical Scandinavian minimalism. The designers' approach was to embrace color and texture, resulting in a space that is both cozy and elegant.
A key element of the renovation was the transformation of the old service corridor into a stunning oak-clad hallway. This new architectural feature not only provides storage but also serves as a central spine, connecting various rooms and creating a distinct atmosphere. The designers' attention to detail is evident in the subtle adjustments to ceiling heights, which contribute to a more cohesive and calming interior rhythm.
The color palette, inspired by the surrounding facades, features deep pinks, rich bronzes, creamy beiges, and bright blues. This contemporary expression anchors the apartment within its neighborhood while adding a unique character. The renovation also involved a complete reimagining of the space, with no original features retained, allowing for a fresh and modern design.
Every element of the apartment, from the kitchen to the bathroom, was meticulously upgraded. Custom carpentry, including bespoke furniture pieces, was designed to fit seamlessly into the space. The master bedroom's cream and burgundy pill-dot patterned bed, the azure folding screen in the dining room, and the dark blue armchair are all original creations by Studio Ramson. Despite a tight deadline, Studio Ramson delivered an exceptional result, combining bespoke joinery with integrated technical elements such as lighting and audio. The client's description of the final product as 'cosy and elegant, inviting and sophisticated, and tactfully polychromatic' highlights the success of the renovation. The apartment now exudes a stronger sense of identity, layered and warm, with a quiet confidence and a clear sense of soul and character.
